It’s a result that doesn’t come as much of a surprise to most of us, especially here in the United States where cosmetic dentistry is a large and thriving industry. But the results were confirmed recently in Britain, where Oral B surveyed 2000 British men, women, and dentists on the effects of white teeth.
A White Smile Can Go a Long Way
According to the results of the survey, a white smile can make people think you’re younger, more attractive, and wealthier.
In terms of youth, a whiter smile makes a person look 5 years younger, better than a facelift.
Attractiveness also increases significantly, 20% according to the survey. White teeth are apparently one of the biggest concerns when dating, as well. Yellow teeth and bad breath are the top two concerns among dating men, beating out bald spots and bad hair.
Finally, whiter teeth can make people think you’re wealthy and well-educated. The respondents said that having white teeth made them think a person earned about $16,000 more than a person with yellow teeth. In addition, they were twice as likely to think a person had attended college or a private school. It’s no wonder, then, that people also think you’re more employable if you have white teeth.
White Teeth for You
Discolored teeth is the most common cosmetic concern for all people. Most can get good results from teeth whitening, but whether in-office or take-home whitening is best for you depends on the nature of your stains, your timetable for results, and your whiteness goals.
For stains that are inside the tooth, porcelain veneers may make a better whitening treatment.
