Missing teeth can create a lot of problems– both physically and emotionally. For example, many patients ultimately come see me because they are tried feeling like they have to hide there smile. They are afraid people are looking at the missing tooth and passing judgement. It’s also very difficult to chew food with missing teeth. But on top of that, a lost tooth also creates problems for your jawbone.
This is because each and every one of our teeth are actually living organs that have multiple functions in keeping the mouth healthy. Teeth stimulate the jaw so the bone structure stays solid. Without that system in place, theres a breakdown of the jaw that we can ever get back naturally. Overtime, this bone loss process creates a “sunken in” looking face.
Modern implant technology allows us to provide patients with a solid foundation that functions extremely close to the ability of natural teeth. This is because we’ve developed the ability to attach the implant to the root of the tooth, creating the oh so important stimulation. With implants we can replace one or all of your teeth. I want my patients to feel free to smile and laugh with no hesitation, so part of the process often includes a cosmetic consultation about color, length and shape of the patient’s ideal smile.
