Every day new subscription services pop up for things most of us never considered needing a subscription for. Everything from laundry detergent to makeup to air filters can now be ordered once and delivered at regular intervals so you never run out. But what about your toothbrush?
How Often Do You Replace Your Toothbrush?
Did you know that the American Dental Association recommends replacing your toothbrush every three months or as soon as the bristles are frayed? Most dental professionals advise replacing your brush after illness as well. That means each year you should be going through at the bare minimum four toothbrushes if you don’t get sick and they don’t show signs of wear.
Statistics from Focused Care Dental found that 75 percent of people do not replace their toothbrushes as often as they should. A new toothbrush startup company, Quip, set out to change this. Its unique service ships toothbrush replacement heads for its affordable electric toothbrushes every three months, along with reminders to visit your dentist every six months for checkups.
How Long Do You Brush Your Teeth?
Quip didn’t just stop with one problem and solution – the company also decided to tackle one of the most common dental hygiene problems worldwide. According to the Academy of General Dentistry, the average person only brushes their teeth for an average of 45 to 70 seconds a day, even though the recommended minimum time is 240 seconds a day (2 minutes, twice a day).
Quip’s brush helps users not only brush longer, but also to brush more efficiently. It does this by vibrating in 30-second increments four times, helping you plan out exactly how long you should be focusing on each section of teeth.
Of course, you don’t need a special brush to improve your oral hygiene habits. The same results can be achieved by setting an alarm on your phone to remind you to brush each morning and each evening if you have trouble remembering. Using a timer in the bathroom, whether it’s on your smartphone or you decide to get a dedicated toothbrushing timer, is a great way to make sure you’re brushing long enough. Most people think they already are and are surprised to find out just how short they cut their brushing time each session. When it comes to replacing your toothbrush, just buy them in bulk so you always have one ready when it starts to look worn.
