“All I Want for Christmas Is You,” is celebrating 20 years as a top holiday hit, but those of us who are a little older remember the days when “All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth,” was a much more popular favorite. And, although the lovelorn may think their problems the worse, it’s actually people with smile difficulties who may have it worse at this time of year. Sometimes, though, an individual will get lucky and get what her heart truly desires, such as Stephanie Albarella of Kennewick, Washington, who, thanks to her friend and radio station Power 99.1, received a $20,000 smile makeover surprise this Christmas.
A Congenital Defect
Albarella was born with a condition that caused her to have deformed teeth (the press release doesn’t say what the condition is). Not only were they deformed, they were vulnerable to further decay and even loss. Still a relatively young woman, she only had 16 teeth left, but no way to afford the dental implants and other procedures necessary to give her an attractive smile. That’s why her friend, Heather Peters, decided to write in to 99.1 and see if she could win her friend a new smile as part of the station’s annual Christmas giveaway. However, she suspected that the station wouldn’t be able to help because it would just be too expensive. She was surprised to learn, though, that they could (it’s the station’s most expensive giveaway ever), and she decided to maintain the surprise for her friend. Peters told Albarella that the radio station was having a Christmas party, and the surprise was revealed at the radio station. Albarella then agreed to do an interview, and she gushed about the present. Among the things she’s look forward to most: taking a selfie with her new smile.
What Do People Really Want?
Although stories like this might make you think that giving the gift of cosmetic dentistry is the best thing you could do for a friend or family member, you might want to take a careful assessment, first. Make sure that cosmetic dentistry is something your friend really wants. Never get someone this kind of present just because you think they need a new smile. Also make sure that your friend has mentioned this desire to you, and that it’s a real desire, as opposed to just a casual wish. Also, beware of buying procedures until you really know what’s necessary to help someone’s smile.
